Beijing
According to the GTAI, spending on smart city projects in China, which combine sustainable urban energy concepts and innovative mobility solutions, rose by around 13 percent year-on-year to just under USD 26 billion in 2020. This puts the country in second place worldwide behind the USA. By 2024, more than half of Chinese spending is expected to be on sustainable infrastructure and efficient energy supply, as well as data-driven governance and digital management. The approach of combining data collected in public spaces with private-sector data to achieve new intelligent solutions in traffic or urban planning as well as energy supply is part of the Chinese smart city concepts.
